Shiatsu Massage (Back to Top)

Shiatsu Massage is a Japanese form of massage. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.



Swedish Massage (Back to Top)

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork.  It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation.  The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.



Deep Tissue Massage (Back to Top)

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body.  We use various techniques with our hands, knuckles, and elbows and apply focused pressure on “problem areas” in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics.  Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term.  Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates.  Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet.  Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body.  According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into the feet.  Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger points” in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These ‘knots’ are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress.During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

During a session, I work in energetic connection with you in order to remove blockages, detoxify your energy system, and restore your vital life force energy.  The Reiki technique utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us.  The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.



Rosen Method (Back to Top)

Rosen Method is a bodywork method that is distinguished by its gentle, direct touch. Using hands that listen rather than manipulate, attention is focused on muscle tension and breathing patterns. Moxibustion (Back to Top)

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique administered by Brandy Valentine, that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used for healing purposes throughout Asia for thousands of years. The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi (energy), and enhance overall vitality and health.

Among other benefits, a landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that up to 75% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point on the bladder meridian.



Jin Shin Do (Back to Top)

Jin Shin Do is a style of bodywork that uses gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific “points” on your body to release chronic tension and harmonize your Qi (energy) flow.  A unique synthesis of eastern and western healing approaches, Jin Shin Do aligns the body, mind and spirit to help bring you into a deeper state of awareness, clarity and purpose.

Herbal Medicine is the therapeutic use of plants, and is one of the oldest forms of health care in the world. Depending on your specific needs, we prescribe specific herbs that produce and contain a variety of chemical substances that act upon the body. Different herbs have been effectively used for a wide range of medicinal purposes including pain relief, hormone balancing, sleep enhancement, improved digestion, skin soothing, and stress relief.



Aston Patterning (Back to Top)

Aston Patterning is a comprehensive integration of massage, deep tissue work and movement education. It was developed in the 1970's by the designer for the original exercises in Rolfing who later tailored the program to facilitate rehabilitation, improve performance and prevent injury called Aston Patterning. It combines not only massage work but also a re-education of the body through movement and awareness to maintain change.

Bioenergetics is a combination of physical and psychological techniques used to release constrictions in the energy flow of the body. because psychological defenses are anchored in the body, special attention is given to the muscular patterns inhibiting self-expression. This technique is an extension of Alexander Lowen's work and uses physical exercises, deep breathing, and massage to permit the body to give up its need to armor itself.
