The yoga classes at Beyond Serenity are taught by Carol Bender, Anise Langley, and Gabrielle vonRumpf. Our classes are a hybrid of vinyasa flow with mindful hatha yoga. Our focus is more on the holding of poses, and the integration of body and breath.
Most of the benefit of hatha yoga comes from the holding of asanas (poses). Traditional hatha yoga focuses on integrating breath and movement, awareness and alignment, strength and flexibility, to your daily life. Vinyasa flow yoga consists of a series of postures connected through the breath for a transformative and balancing effect. It can feel like a moving meditation OR a really challenging workout.
CAROL started Bender Yoga in 2005 with the intention to help others manage stress and find peace in everyday life. Her mantra: “Bend your body, transform your life”. Carol certified to teach yoga in 2004 by Aura Wellness Center and recertified in 2007. Since 2004, she has taught over 1,500 yoga and meditation classes to students from ages 6 to 90. In the Stillwater area, she has taught classes at Total Health (part of Stillwater Medical Center), the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, Meridian Technology Center, the First Christian Church, and to various clubs and groups in the Stillwater area. Carol is currently studying for her Registered Yoga Alliance teaching (RYT) certification with Life Mastery Services in Oklahoma City.
ANISE began practicing yoga in 2002 and has completed her 200 hour RYT certification with Life Mastery Services. She has taught classes at the Stillwater YMCA and currently teaches yoga at the OSU Wellness Center. Her teaching is a mix of hatha and vinyasa yoga with a focus on foundational posture. Anise hopes to encourage others to develop a personal practice allowing for mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual exploration. Anise’s mantra: “When in doubt, just breathe.”
